Cage of Roses

The von Essen family is aristocratic, and Meike is their daughter. The von Essen family, which was once among the richest in Germany, has now lost its reputation after a series of poor business choices caused them to go bankrupt.

Meike’s parents want to marry their only daughter off to self-made businessman Walter Gerhardt in an attempt to regain their previous money and fame. Meike hardly knows Walter, so she doesn’t have any affection for him, but her mother is adamant on the marriage, and Meike sees no way out of her upcoming engagement.

Before robbers attack the carriage carrying her and her family through the forest to Walter’s house in Augsburg, Meike’s destiny as the bride of the icy, reckless Walter appears to be fixed in stone.

Although Meike and her devoted maid, Henrieke, manage to escape, Meike’s parents are slaughtered. As the two run through the forest in quest of safety, they come across a haunting, dilapidated castle tucked away amid the trees.

Meike quickly learns that a young woman named Magdalena owns this castle. There is more to Magdalena than meets the eye. She is short, has flowing fair hair, and appears to be a kind, innocent person.

Magdalena is a vampire, and now that she has Meike in her grasp, it doesn’t seem like she will ever be able to get away.
