Why?

The UK government recently outlawed the possession of pornography depicting suffocation or strangulation, classifying it as a “priority offense”—the same level as CP or terrorist propaganda.

The purpose of this game is to question the UK government’s incredibly ineffective, lazy, and frequently harmful attempts to address societal issues through censorship, rather than to deny that there are risks associated with choking—the act is inherently dangerous and should only be performed by consenting adults properly informed of the risks.

The UK has a long history of restricting any behavior that can be seen as undesirable. For example, the Audiovisual Media Services Regulations 2014 outlawed a variety of behaviors, such as face sitting, spanking, urolagnia, and strangulation.

Even though this was repealed in 2019, it’s evident from this most recent prohibition that lessons were not learned and that the ruling party will gladly restrict bodily autonomy if it appeals to a particular group of voters.

Censorship just serves to avoid taking responsibility for educating people about consent and safe practices; outright prohibiting anything that might offend or cause harm is no alternative for candid and open dialogue.

Regarding safety, I’m not active in sex work, therefore I’m not sure what the best way to keep those that do it safe is. In my opinion, the government ought to speak with those who are and pay attention to what they have to say.

It’s amazing if you enjoy choking, but it’s also great if you don’t! The government shouldn’t have the authority to determine what kinks are allowed as long as you and your partners maintain your safety and give informed permission. Everyone, have fun playing!
