Each young adult is enrolled in a unique institution, ranked, and given a score based on their physical characteristics and “breeding value.” The rest of your life is determined by your rank. When you reach the top, you and one person of your choosing are free to go and remain together. When you land at the bottom, you are never permitted to start a family of your own and must serve everyone above you for the rest of your life. Here, love is irrelevant. The breeding outcome is the only thing that matters.
