In 2123, decades after a devastating global network blackout in 2112—a forty-three-minute outage that exposed everyone’s personal data and splintered the internet into disconnected intranets—society is still fractured by limited connectivity and digital reliance. Yet amid the wreckage, the advertising industry somehow carried on untouched, even flourishing. Margo and the MC, both hooked on sixteen-hour intranet binges that have left their attention spans in ruins, win a lottery granting them six months at the SpaceAds Digital Detox Center. There, they hope to restore their minds through analog living, hands-on labor, and real human connection beyond the glow of screens.
