OVERVIEW

Biologically modified humanoids, or “biots,” account for a sizable portion of the labor force in 2066.

One such biot is the main character of Synthetic Lover, who, like the rest of his coworkers, exists just to carry out his predetermined job. In his case, that means having a partner at Dollhouse, an adult entertainment facility.

The protagonist’s days are spent in this manner until the unexpected appearance of an opportunistic thief carrying a mysterious device. Biots are servants who exist as lifeless dolls until being activated upon request. Their self-awareness is sealed off by design, taking with it their ability to think or feel of their own free will.

In the science fiction novel Synthetic Lover, a character unintentionally discovers what it is to be human and how to cope with adversity, intense feelings, uneasy thoughts, challenging circumstances, and the imperfections of life. It’s a voyage of self-discovery, making connections with people, cultivating friendships, trying to be conscious and aware in the face of difficulty, and, ultimately, discovering love.
